What is a VPN concentrator in Security+?

D3 ยท Architecture  ยท  CompTIA Security+ SY0-701
A VPN concentrator is a dedicated network device that manages and terminates a large volume of VPN tunnels simultaneously. It is deployed at a corporate HQ or data center to handle hundreds or thousands of remote-access VPN connections at scale.

It handles encryption/decryption, key management, and user authentication for all VPN sessions.
A regular router or firewall can handle a handful of VPN tunnels. A VPN concentrator is needed when you have many remote workers. Common VPN protocols: IPSec, SSL/TLS VPN, L2TP (often paired with IPSec).
